Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ was voted the greatest “lighter in the air song of all time”

September 7, 2010

London: Pop group Queen`s `Bohemian Rhapsody` has been voted the greatest "lighter in the air song of all time" in a new poll.

The flamboyant band`s million selling 1975 single was given the accolade by voters surveyed by lighter company Zippo, scooping 33 percent of all votes cast, reports contactmusic.com.

"It is fascinating to see how true rock legends are still making their mark on fans. Just as they`ve cemented their place in rock history, so too has Zippo," said David Warfel, a spokesperson for Zippo.

The song beat Led Zeppelin`s "Stairway To Heaven", and Meatloaf`s "I would do anything for Love (But I Won`t Do That)" to the number one spot in the survey.

The poll also named The Beatles as most influential band of the last half a century despite the fact they have not released a new record since 1996.

Randy Bachman has written a book, "Vinyl Tap Stories"

Let's go to the Ex !!

Today is the final day of the 2011 Canadian National Exhibition (CNE, commonly referred to as "The Ex").

I haven't made it there for several years, but have many fond memories of the crowds, the rides, the games, and most of all, the music.

WDVR Rocks !!

I recently found this New Jersey-based radio station.  If you check their website, http://www.wdvrfm.org/ , you'll see by their schedule that they really have music to suit all tastes.  You can call the DJ's during their show (just call 609-397-1620 & press 5 for the on-air DJ) or email them during their show ( host@wdvrfm.org ).  And, yes, they do take requests.  It's a lot of fun !!
[You'll find WDVR streams here:

How I stumbled across this station is quite the story !!  I used to listen to CING Radio 108.  One song I really luved was "Rainbows, Pots of Gold, and Moonbeams". CING no longer exists and I can't find the song anywhere, including ITunes.  I do recall asking at one time and being told that the artist was none other than Studebaker Hawk.

A Google search led me to a DJ at WDVR in New Jersey called Studebaker Hawk.  I turns out that this is not the same person, but I have become a regular listener to his show, Hot Wax, aired on Fridays, from 6 AM - 9 AM.  Studebaker has quite the following of regular listeners !!

[Incidentally, I have since located the song, "Rainbows, Pots of Gold and Moonbeams", available for download here http://www.littleshopofvoices.com/tuneman/studebaker.rm .]
